[Last Week] [Saturday] [Sunday] [Monday] [Tuesday] [Wednesday] [Thursday] [Friday] [Next Week]

Happy New Year everyone.

Welcome to my new venture into the world of net diaries. Since I am now part of an elite group of extraordinary women called netwidows, I felt I should contribute to the cause. I have been wanting to start a diary page and it is time to expand my use and knowledge of Frontpage.

The Netwidows Homepage  tells more about us if you are interested.

Bob, my wonderful husband and member of the Daynotes Gang, set my page up for me using my existing site structure. I will not attempt to become a Mrs. Daynoter, but rather post periodically what is going on in my world.

I spend most of yesterday and today taking down Christmas decorations. I use this time of year to also do a once a year deep clean of every room in the house. This past summer I repainted the hall, foyer, and our bedroom and bathroom, so they have been done already. We are currently working on Bob's office and hope to be finished with it this weekend. All the trash from his office closet could not go out at one time for garbage collection.

I will then do the dining and living rooms next. That leaves my office and the guest room as the other main rooms of the house needing done. We are going to build me a computer table using a door similar to the one we built for Bob's office. After completing that project, I will then do my office.

One of the reason for wanting to start an online journal is make myself become more comfortable with the written word. In my new job as research consultant I have also been doing some web reviews for a couple of professional magazines and am helping Bob with a chapter of his book. I do not feel my writing skills are honed properly and like everything else, practice makes perfect. The more I write the better I should become. I am currently doing two web column reviews that are due in the next two weeks. I also need to get back to helping Bob with our other web site that he wants to bring up.

Today is one of my Border Collie dogs birthday, Duncan, who turned five. We also have a fourteen week old and a 12 year old BC.

Back to work on the house.

[Last Week] [Saturday] [Sunday] [Monday] [Tuesday] [Wednesday] [Thursday] [Friday] [Next Week]

I am writing this at 6:20 PM. When Bob does his late afternoon stuff he writes it for the next day since he will not publish again that day. For right now I think I will use the day I am living in and not worry about what day it gets published.

Took our 12 year old Border Collie to the vet this morning for his shot. Afterwards came back and tackled more of the house. I am now down to the guest bedroom, my office and the book cases in the living room/library. We do not have that room furnished as a traditional living room, but as a library. We have four This End Up bookcases on one wall, I long low bookcase on the opposite wall, several chairs, a couple of tables and one lamp. So it is really a library, not a living room which we would not use anyway.

Bob was very helpful hanging pictures and assisting in odds and ends as I needed him. He has also been working to get our fax line up, but has been having problems getting the line to answer. Tomorrow we are heading out to Lowe's Home Improvement to buy me a door to make a computer table like the one in Bob's office. I need more space and we can mount it at the height I find comfortable for working. Once I get it stained and a coat of polyurethane, we will get it installed.

Speaking of Lowe's, I am writing another column for our library professional magazine Library Journal. I review web sites for the Web Watch column. I sent off my first draft this morning. The editor of the column returned it with the rewrites he wants, so I will need to work on that later in the week. I am also doing a web review for an academic publication that is due next week too. Even though this periodical does not pay, it is good experience for me and I get free publicity.

Tomorrow is gym and grocery day. Will do that first before we go to Lowe's than come home and tackle more of the cleaning.  I am currently reading Thomas Raddall's revised history of his book Halifax Warden of the North. I discovered Raddall's work last year while traveling in Nova Scotia. I bought this title and his fictional account of governor James Wentworth titled The Governor's Lady, which is actually mentioned in Fodor's Travel Guide for The Maritimes under the description of Halifax. I loved his fiction work so much that I tried to find his other books and found they were not sold in stores around here. I ended up opening an account with the Canadian on-line book store Chapters so I could order some of his others. He is very colorful in his writing and makes reading about history a joy. As I am reading this one about the founding of Halifax, I am trying to picture the places he is talking about while my memory of the trip is still fresh. I did put up a page Canada Trip with pictures of our travels throughout Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

[Last Week] [Saturday] [Sunday] [Monday] [Tuesday] [Wednesday] [Thursday] [Friday] [Next Week]

Been a busy week with working on the house and two columns due. I started on staining my door that will become my computer desk. We made our Lowe's trip and bought door and 2x4's to use for mounting the door to the wall. We also needed one leg to support one corner of the desk. Bob was inventing these convoluted ways to make a leg when I discovered pre-made table legs with a screw for mounting on one end.  When still perplexed as to how we mount leg to table, I then found a plate that will mount to the door for attaching the leg. DAH! I don't often get to do that with Bob, but I can be very handy at not making a mountain from a mole hill.

Today I will put another coat of stain on the door and start on my office. All the other rooms are cleaned and just need putting some things back in place. Feels good to have the house deep cleaned for another year.

Got back the first draft from the LJ editor and need to have revisions to him by Monday. My other freebie column is complete for Electronic Resources Review. I have been asked and accepted a chance to become a regular reviewer for them. It will good writing experience for me.

I also need to get started entering the data in my Family Tree genealogy software and work on Bob's chapter.
