A month or so ago I signed up for a day trip to Raleigh on the Amtrak train with her arts group for today. At the time I signed up I was not sure, due to mom’s failing health, if I would be able to go but the ticket was not all that much if I had to cancel.

Bonnie got here about 7am to drive to the Greensboro station which is the nearest station to Winston. We departed Greensboro at 8:40 and arrived in Raleigh about 10:25. The station is roughly three blocks from the center of downtown. Bonnie had picked out several art galleries and related type places she wanted to see. We ate lunch at one of the arts centers then walked to several others. Raleigh has a free shuttle that goes in a loop around the perimeter of the city with many stops. We took the shuttle out to one of the furtherest places we wanted to see then took it back toward others to save time. The train was supposed to leave Raleigh at 4:50 but was running late so we went across the street to eat a quick dinner. We finally left Raleigh at 5:45 making it back to Greensboro around 7:30.

We had a really nice day. It was cloudy and overcast this morning but the sun came out midday. I enjoyed getting away for the day. A bonus was running into Al at the restaurant where we ate. He was in Raleigh with a group of school kids downtown at the museums and legislative building.
