While I was at the beach I read two books on my Kindle both new authors for me and started a third book loaned to me by a co-worker which I am still reading.

Judith K. Ivie writes a mystery series set in Wethersfield, Connecticut. Kate Lawrence takes a mid-life career change to become a legal secretary and of course ends of solving the murder of one of the partners found dead. It’s funny because before I started working at a law firm I would have never understood all the references to the happenings in the office, the legal software, processes, etc. But, you don’t have to be involved in the legal field to enjoy the series.

The second book, Dead Angler, by Victoria Houston is set in Loon Lake, Wisconsin. As you can guess by the title the series is based on Lewellyn Ferris’ life as the Chief of Police and an avid fly fisher. Having read the Tapply and Craig series I rather enjoy reading fishing mysteries now.

The third book in progress is All Good Things by Leigh Somerville. It is not a mystery but a sequel to a book I read several years ago, It All Started With a Dog. Somerville is from Winston-Salem but the books are set in the DC area. In the first book Rachel Springer, a never married 62 year old attorney, buys a house across the street from her long time friend. Through a series of events that all started when she brought home a half starved dog with mange she named Ralph, Rachel’s life changes in many different ways.

Not only did I love the characters but Somerville writes well and tells a good story. I knew the sequel was out and had planned to borrow it from the library at some point.
