Twenty eight years ago today Bob and I were married. Hum, I was 28 years old and certainly old enough to know what I was getting into. Would I do it all over again, you bet.<\/p>\n
Last weekend when I was loping off the euonymus bushes I noticed they were covered in powdery mildew again. The hot dry conditions bring it on. One of the bushes that I had tried to save from a bad outbreak several years ago was pretty much done for. I pulled it out by the root. I then remembered I had looked for my spray at the beginning of summer for that in the basement and could not find any. When I looked at Lowe’s I did not find what I wanted and then forgot about it. I should have gone to the garden store. I don’t usually forget to do that kind of thing. I need to remember to spray them early next summer.<\/p>\n
In the garden section of the paper yesterday morning they mentioned using copper sulfate to combat the problem. Having just labeled countless bottles of chemicals recently I remembered that was one of our chemicals. I asked Bob if he would mix me up a solution to spray on the bushes which I did first thing this morning.<\/p>\n
I then went out to the pet store and Lowe’s to pick up some more nails and steel wool for the kits. They had some nice flats of pansies and violas so I picked up one of each of those and a new bush. I pulled up the annuals in all the beds. The bed on the left has a mum that comes back every year. It is gigantic, taking over most of the bed but has not yet bloomed. I will wait to put bedding plants in there once that has finished. I split the two flats taking half of each for the other small beds, put those out, and my new bush. The other half I will take to my folks tomorrow to plant.<\/p>\n
I dead headed the hydrangeas and picked up sticks and debris in the backyard from last weeks storm then mowed and swept up the driveway and gutter.<\/p>\n
It is a beautiful fall day. Not too hot, slight breeze, some high clouds. I had Colin out helping at various times. He runs and runs, and runs. He is pretty good about not running off. I keep a short lead tied to his collar in case I need to grab him real quick.<\/p>\n
