Cool temperatures this morning with lots of breeze. We had a brief storm last night that did not bring much rain but did bring the cooler temperatures.

It was the perfect morning to tackle my front garden bed project. It turned out not be nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I built the two high, six foot square landscape timber box currently filled with dirt roughly twenty years ago or so. The boards had starting looking unsightly several years ago. I had been wanting to replace them but never seem to find the time or energy the last two years to get it done. This morning I used the shovel to lift one of the sides to see how “together” the boards still are. Turns out I was able to lift the entire side up and flip the whole “box” over. I had planned to use the 1 foot by 3 inch high cement edging like I have by the porch bed two rows high. Bob calculated the number I needed and off I headed to Lowe’s. Turns out they had a better solution. Instead of having to buy 40 of those I bought 20 16″ x 5.5′ stone edging. Five to a side made the bed a little larger than the original bed but I had some room to expand without having to dig out grass. Once I had the edging in place I filled in the difference from the existing bed dirt. I had to move and replant a few of my vinca but that was easy. Bob helped me move the former timber box over to the natural area. I need to get a bag of mulch to top dress the bed but it looks really nice.

After lunch I took off to run some errands; drug store, groceries, and pet store. It’s warmed up to the mid 80’s but we still have the 16 mph gusts from time to time.

Dinner out tonight with Frances, Marcy, and Leah in Lewisville before setting up our chairs in the main square to watch the fireworks.

Happy Birthday USA. and, what a beautiful day it is.
