Malcolm learned this trick on his on. He likes to jump up on the table and visit Bob. We are very cautious to make sure he does not injure himself getting up or down.

May 28, 2001 : Tired out after an energetic session of hall ball. This is not a posed shot. I walked into the den and found him laying like this on the pillow.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Dog Poems

dog haiku

i love my master thus i perfume myself with this rotten squirrel

i lie belly up in the sun, happier than you ever will be

yes, today i sniffed many dog butts - i rejoice by kissing your face

i lift my leg and whiz on each bush - hello, spot sniff my scent and weep

how do i love thee? the ways are numberless as my hairs on the rug

my human is home! i am so ecstatic i have made a puddle

sleeping here, my chin on your foot - no greater bliss maybe... chasing cats

look deep in my eyes try to deny it - no one loves you as much i

i am your best friend now, always, and even more when you are eating

my owners' mood is romantic - i lie near them i blow a big one

Thanks to the BWG for this tribute to dogs.

Just My Dog

He's just my dog. He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He has told me more than a thousand times over that I am his reason for being -- by the way he rests against my leg, by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile, by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another person. With him, I am all powerful. He has taught me the meaning of devotion is loyalty itself. With him, I know the secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me ... whenever ... wherever ... in case I need him, and I expect I will, as I always have. Who is he? -- He's just --

MY DOG!
