51 degrees, partly cloudy, and calm this morning. I left here around 8:30 to meet some other volunteers on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Parts of the Parkway and all public services are not yet open for the tourist season. Our Friends of the Parkway group did a couple of workdays during the week to start clearing brush from the camp ground areas but I had to work those days.

We had about 12 this morning to work moving more brush and limbs from the tent camp sites. With all the wind and ice there is so much debris down some of it completely covering the camping sites. We worked moving it out to the roads in the camp ground to where the brush and mulching trucks can get to it. The areas along the Parkway itself are covered in downed trees and debris, all of which has to be cleaned up before it can open to the public in May. The Parkway maintenance staff do not have enough people to get all this mess cleared up so they depend on the volunteer groups along the Parkway in NC and VA to help. We will have another work day a couple of weeks from today.

It is a nice day today with temperatures in the low 60’s with some sunshine and not much wind.
