Another busy Saturday as usual. This morning we worked on the unfinished side of the basement. I put away/organized the stuff I brought from the old house and had just dumped. It is somewhat put away, at least until I get down there to do a real clean up. Today was too cold to leave the garage doors open to sweep the floor, etc.

The big project for the day…putting up the new ceiling fan. It was a chore just getting the old one down. It is original to the house when we moved in so I am guessing it had been up at least 30 years. Or, I should say, the housing and motor unit were up. We had to take the blades off when Lenore and Kerry moved in with us because he was afraid to go in any room with a ceiling fan it it. When he died we put the blades back on.

The worst part of mounting the new one was the main brace. It was supposed to be mounted using wood screws directly in the ceiling joists. But, as with most things in this house, the box for the old one was mounted flush. The screws for the old bracket were not long enough to go through the new bracket and into the holes. Finally, I fished around in our electrical junk box and found two longer screws that fix the electrical box holes.

Since Bob had that vertigo issue he really struggles working over his head. I am at least handy with a screw driver and was able to do some of the mounting stuff. It took both of us to get it installed.

I left for about an hour to meet Frances and a contractor who buys houses in our old neighborhood. He was interested so we are now back to square one. Frances has some good shots of the front of the house and the back yard. He suggested we put it up on Craig’s List, which we might do. I at this point we are going to try to sell it ourselves. I will talk with one of our real estate attorney’s next week to get some further advice.
