Frances called me at work this afternoon to let me know she had called the apartment to check on mom and mom was not doing very well. Monday, the doctor had recommended we start Palliative care for mom but we had not heard from the local Hospice and Palliative care organization yet. After I hung up from talking with Frances I called them to see if we could get a Hospice evaluation based on what Pam, mom’s caregiver had told her of mom’s condition. She has not eaten much the last two days and has trouble speaking. Hospice called me back and said a nurse would be at the apartment at 5:30.

I left work at 4:15 to run an errand then went on to the apartment.  Al was picking up soft foods for mom from K&W and Frances was picking up Chinese take out for her, Al, Pam, me and Bob.

Mom is very weak and can only say an intelligible word every once in awhile. She would not eat her dinner that Al brought.

Once all the paperwork was signed I came home with the food. Mom is now under the care of Hospice but will remain at home until her condition becomes such that she needs to go to the Hospice home. The nurse was doing her evaluation when I left and hopefully Pam was able to get mom to eat something.
