Thursday

Hello. It has been a busy, busy week. Tonight and Tuesday night I went to the Y. Tuesday at work two of my co-workers took me out for a belated birthday lunch.

Yesterday I left work at 1pm to pick up mom and dad from the hospital. Dad’s car has been in the shop for the past week so Frances and I are getting them to appointments. He had a series of heart/stress tests yesterday from 9 to 1. Frances dropped them off and I picked them up. After I dropped them off at home I ran several errands until time to meet Nancy and Betsy at Carraba’s for dinner at 5:30.

It has been cloudy and rainy since Tuesday but yesterday afternoon was the worst for having to run around in and out of stores. It was windy, wet, and at times pouring rain. We ended up with an 1 1/2″ here at the house.

So, speaking of dad and his car. He had a little run in with the wall of their driveway doing quit a bit of damage to the front end. At this point Frances and I have decided it’s a convenient time to take the keys away. His vision has been getting worse and worse and we now feel like it is too dangerous for him to drive. Of course, he is being stubborn and ugly about it but I have heard that same story from so many people who had to face the same thing with a parent, aunt, etc. It’s been an emotional week for both of us to have to do this battle. My mom has never driven so that is not and will never be an issue. I am sure it is part having to give up his independence but I think a lot of it is pride. If he were to think about it rationally he would agree with us that he should not be driving but he’s 89 years old and stubborn as a mule. I must say I get it honest.
