I am reading Murder in an Irish Pub by Carlene O’Connor.

Sunny today but cold. It was 19 this morning with 20 mph winds. We will not make it out of the 20’s today with the winds staying about the same.

The usual Saturday chore of laundry and other small assorted tasks.

Lots of sunshine and a bit warmer but winds gusting to 25 mph plus.

I went to the gym this morning and made a grocery store run to pick up a few odds and ends. Thankfully no power outages from the ice. Winston and surrounding areas were hit pretty hard.

Things are icy but not serious. We have gone from a winter storm warning to a watch. Temperatures are hovering just at freezing. Maybe some rain/snow mix this afternoon. Temps back down in the upper 20’s tonight. Ice is on the trees and surfaces. Thankfully, no wind.

I drove the car out to the mailbox to get the mail. Not taking any chances. I stay on the porch when I let Colin out. He goes very carefully on the slick surfaces.

Fixing a crock pot meal for dinner.

Tuesday February 17, 2021

19 degrees this morning with sunshine. Partly cloudy today and breezy. Temps may make it into the low 30’s. We are under a winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow. It may be more ice than snow. Last weekend the Winston area had more ice and power outages than we had up here. Same it true for this time. They are predicting heavier icing than up here.

I made it to the gym this morning and stopped by the library to pick up a couple of books. I have everything I need in case of power outages. I do have a generator but have not had to fire it up since I bought it. Also, have the little wood stove down in the basement. Plenty of food and supplies as well.

Finally some sunshine today but it’s cold and windy. Temperatures start falling this afternoon down into the teens by tonight. More white/ice stuff predicted starting tomorrow.

I spent the morning cleaning out and organizing some more files in the filing cabinet. Otherwise, not much else to report.

Monday February 15, 2021

I am reading The Hanging Wood by Martin Edwards.

Another cold, rainy day.

I had a 9:30 dentist appointment to get some fillings replaced. When I cranked the car in the garage the check engine light came on. I called Lynn at B & T Automotive. He said to bring it by after I leave the dentist office.

Lynn is great with diagnostics. He kept our Trooper and my HHR running. I did not want to drive all the way to Boone to the dealership to get it checked where I have been going for my oil changes and check ups.

He ran the diagnostic but did not find anything any emission leaks . He reset the light and said if it came back on to give him a call. If it comes back on I may call the dealership and have them take a look at it.

Sunday February 14, 2021

Wet, cold, and cloudy today. Temperatures staying in the upper 30’s.

Last night we ordered wings from the pizzeria. They were really good. I have some left over for my dinner tonight.

Frances and Al left after lunch. I cleaned the bathrooms and vacuumed and washed a load of towels.

Saturday February 13, 2021

Ice is covering the trees and metal surfaces. Rain/freezing rain for the rest of the day and tonight.

JoAnn came over with her husband and son to help Al move the mattress that was on theirĀ  bed downstairs up here to put on my bed. My mattress will go to Winston to the Rescue Mission at some point. With the rain it may not do down tomorrow.

Otherwise, we are just hanging out and doing little things I need Frances and Al’s help with.

Friday February 12, 2021

Rain/freezing rain fell over night and this morning. Roads and sidewalks are just wet but the grass has a coating of ice. Along with the fog and just above freezing temperatures that will be the scenario for the rest of the today and tonight.

Frances and Al are coming up late this afternoon. I did the laundry and and few other odds and ends mostly in the kitchen.

Thursday February 11, 2021

I left for Winston around 11:45 for my appointment for CT scans of both my upper and lower back. From there I went to my appointment with the neurosurgeon. I had a disc of the scans but he was waiting on them to show up on-line and be read by the radiologist.

He looked at the x-rays I took with me the chiropractor took back in November. Until he looks at all the results he would only discuss basics but things are not great. He was talking rods, screws, and plates which I don’t really want to do. There may be some pain management options but we will discuss things further when he calls me with the results.

It rained all the way down, heavy at times, and all the way back. Fog from the mountain all the way home. At least the heavy rain washed the salt and grime off the car.
