Turns out my garage critter was a chipmunk. Found him with his head in the trap this morning. I’m must confess I am not good with dealing with dead critters. Bob used to deal with those for me. The mouse I trapped back in the winter Al tossed mouse and trap in the trash since it had laid there for at least a week. Today, I bravely swept dead chipmunk and trap into the dust pan and walked over to the woods where I pulled said chipmunk out of trap and tossed him away, washed the traps, and put them away. These are heavy duty traps Bob had purchased a while back that are actually designed to be reused unlike those cheap wooden ones.
Another storm and half inch of rain yesterday afternoon. Warm and sunny this morning but a chance of storms again this afternoon.
Well, hopefully little Alvin didn’t pass on his discovery of manna…
My neighbors down the street have ground squirrels stealing their chicken eggs. Production dropped from seven to ten a day down to zero, puzzling them until a boy glimpsed the fast moving little guys. Not a broken shell or drop of yoke from the heists.
Traps and BB guns seem to help, the squirrel body count is 20+, but they keep coming…
I had never heard them called ground squirrels until we moved up here. We had lots of them in Winston but never had one get in the downstairs garage/house the entire 27 years we lived there.
