I am reading lavender Blue Murder by Laura Childs.

Rain, rain, and more rain through tonight into tomorrow. Temps in the low 60’s today

I went to the gym this morning then stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few odds and ends. Didn’t need much.

Vet office called to let me know Colin’s ashes were there. I drove over this afternoon to pick them up.

I met Joyce this morning around 10:30 at the Doughton Park Camp Ground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was cloudy and misty but not raining with temps in the upper 60’s.

We started on the RV side checking the little round fire pits for ash and trash. Not a hard job or any heavy lifting. Not many of the sites on the side needed cleaning. We took a break then went back over to the tent side and worked on those. A lot more of those needed cleaning.

The sun came out this afternoon but temps are still in the upper 60’s. We only made it through about a third of those sites before we both gave out of energy.

I am reading Winterkill by C.J. Box.

My friend Donna stopped by yesterday afternoon for a visit. We sat on the front porch and played with her beagle puppy while we visited.

Colin was so much a part of my daily life from sharing bits of my meals, following me around the house, to going outside to work in the yard. It’s hard to explain but with the new furniture it’s not so painful to be sitting alone without him on the sofa with his ball.

I still expect him to come running in the bedroom at night when I turn off the light after I have been up reading or greeting me at the door when I come home.

Friday September 17, 2021

Mostly cloudy and cool today with temps in the low 70’s.

I stopped in Elkin yesterday at Rumple furniture to look at sofas and chairs for the den. The set we bought when we moved up here did not hold up very well. Now that Colin is gone I wanted to replace the sofa with something of better quality.

They delivered those this morning. After they left I had several errands to run in town. Need to water the plants this afternoon but not much else on the menu.

I left for Winston about 9:30. Mostly cloudy with off and on spotty showers from remnants of Nicholas.

I stopped at the very large used book, etc. store in Winston to drop off some of Bob’s science fiction books. We do not have room for them at the store or I would have donated them to us. They buy books or give you store credit.

Then I met Al at Pet Smart to return the bag of dog food he had just purchased and brought up Friday. From there I stopped at Bed Bath and Beyond and grabbed a quick bite to eat sitting in the car before getting to my noon haircut appointment.

On the way home I made another stop in Elkin  then came on home.

Thank you to everyone who posted condolences about Colin. He was a great dog and best friend especially after Bob died. I hate cancer took him so soon even though he was 10.

I did do my shift at the bookstore today to get out of the house and to try to get back to  normal routine.

A very sad day.

I had to take Colin to the vet yesterday afternoon to have him put to sleep. He was bleeding internally in his stomach from the cancer but there was nothing the we could this time to save him.

Frances and Al left around 10:30 this morning. After they left I started the weekly house cleaning chores.

Another nice day in the mountains with mostly sunny skies and a breeze with temps in the mid to upper 70’s.

Saturday September 11, 2021

Frances and Al arrived last evening around 7.

Today is a beautiful fall day in the mountains with lots of sunshine, a breeze, and temps in the low 70’s.

We left for town around 10 am to go the Heritage Festival. Craft, food, and civic organization booths outside with the streets closed off. We walked around looking and talking to folks we know then stopped for lunch at Horizon Bistro then walked around a bit more.

We wore our masks. Some had then on some not. A few vendors chose not to show up but the event was well attended but not so packed you could not walk easily around folks.

Friday September 10, 2021

Another fall like day with lots of sunshine, temps in the low 70’s, and breezy.

I went to the gym this morning then stopped by the bank and the library.

There were a few gardening chores to attend to. Several of the summer flowers in pots are done for the year. They needed to be dumped and the pots washed out. I swept off the porch and tidied up a few things in the flower beds.

Doing the laundry this afternoon.
