Mostly cloudy this morning and cool when I went to the gym and library.

When I left for the bookstore around 11 I hit rain just I got into town. The shower did not last very long. It’s mostly sunny with temps in the upper 70’s but humid.

I worked at the bookstore for about three and half hours.

Cloudy and overcast when we went out early this morning. The rain started around 10 from remnants of Elsa as she goes east and south toward the NC coast. Just cloudy and cool with temps in the low 70’s for the rest of the day. We had roughly two inches. Enough to water the plants and grass.

With the rain moving out I it was a good time to out and pull some weeds and grass from the natural areas.

James is on vacation this week. With the dry, hot weather the grass is not all that high.

Mostly sunny today and warmer with highs in the low 80’s and calm with low humidity.

I had to go into town to have some copies made at the library and pick up some books. Stopped at the grocery store on the way back home for the usual juice, milk, and lettuce. Several good sales on things I usually buy so picked those up. The place was packed for a Tuesday morning. Guessing a lot of summer folks have arrived.

I am reading Murder in an Irish Cottage by Carlene O’Connor.

Mostly sunny today, low humidity, and breezy. Highs in the lower 80’s. Low’s still down in the lower 60’s.

I went to the gym this morning then spent an hour outside watering plants, pulling up grass and weeds in the natural areas, etc.

Sunday July 4, 2021

Mostly sunny today and a little warmer with highs in the upper 70’s and calmer winds. Low this morning was 56. Still cool for the first of July. Guess it will turn hot all off sudden at some point.

The usual Sunday house cleaning chores this morning. Otherwise not much going on.

Saturday July 3, 2021

52 degrees this morning with a stiff breeze when we went out around 6 am. Lots of sunshine today with temps in the low 70’s and winds gusting to 12 mph.

I spent the morning outside pulling grass and weeds from the natural areas. I cut back the bleeding heart plants and trimmed back some of the tall blooms on the lambs ear by the driveway. I cleaned up the lambs ear by the side of the porch where some of it had rotted and died off and cut back the blooms. The bees like the pink blooms so I left some for them.

Laundry this afternoon and first of the month accounting stuff balancing the checkbook and paying some bills.

Two inches of rain over night. Only 62 degrees this morning when I took Colin out and still cloudy. The sun came out this afternoon and it’s warmed up into the mid 70’s.

I went to the gym, library, bank, and got gas this morning then left again around noon to volunteer at the bookstore for three hours.

Down to Winston this morning to meet Firm friends for lunch then a haircut at 1:30 and back up the mountain.

Hot and muggy down there with temps in the low 90’s. Once I got to Elkin I could tell it had rained. Clouds and damp roads all the way to 21 mountain and into Sparta. The sun was out but I could tell from the debris on the road we had a storm.

James was just finishing up Steve’s yard as I pulled in to my driveway. I let Colin out to go over with me to talk to James and pay him. He said we had a pretty good storm but it went over fast. Looks like we had a little over a half inch of rain. It’s only in the upper 70’s here. But, we may get storms this evening.

I am reading The Falcon Always Wings Twice by Donna Andrews.

I had a friend from high school and college contact me Monday they were coming through Sparta today on the way to a camping location about 20 or miles from here in Virginia.

I volunteered at the bookstore until they arrived around 1:15. We went to Becca’s, a couple of store fronts down from the bookstore, for lunch and a nice visit. First time in 30 or so years we have seen each other though we have kept in touch with Christmas Cards and e-mails.

After they left I went back to the bookstore and stayed until around 3.
