54 degrees and raining this morning when I left to volunteer at the bookstore. I’ve had about in inch here. It rained hard at times downtown but otherwise has been what we needed, a nice steady rain all day.

Al will arrive at some point this afternoon. We will tape their room in preparation for painting tomorrow.

64 degrees and cloudy when I left for Winston this morning. I had a couple of errands to run, grabbed a quick light lunch, then on to my 12:30 doctor appointment. Today was a consult to follow up on my colonoscopy three years ago. I had to make an appointment for another one in November to check on what they found three years ago.

It was warm and sunny in Winston. Back here on the mountain temperatures are still in the upper 60’s but it’s partly cloudy with a breeze. We are supposed to get rain this afternoon and tonight.

Sunday October 6, 2019

Cloudy and cool this morning with a slight drizzle. Frances, Al, and Adam left around 10am. I vacuumed and cleaned the upstairs bathrooms then started working on reorganizing my closet. I had to stop to eat a light lunch and get cleaned up to leave to go over to a friends house for the afternoon event. The closet will be a work in progress for awhile.

Al, Frances, and Al’s son Adam, visiting from Reno, arrived last evening. This morning we left around 10 for Galax, VA to walk around the downtown shops and to eat at Macado’s then came back to downtown Sparta to walk around.

The day has been cool with fog and drizzle and temperatures in the mid 60’s.

I am reading The Grave’s A Fine and Private Place by Alan Bradley.

65 degrees, sunny, and breezy this morning when I left for the gym. I made a quick stop at the grocery store on the way back home then back to work.

Today is the last warm day with temperatures making it into the low 80’s. Tonight is to be a low of 48 with  tomorrow’s high only to be in the mid 50’s. Let’s hope so.

Al came up last night to stay over. This morning we cleared everything out of their bedroom to make room for their new bed and a smaller dresser delivered from our favorite furniture store in Winston. While the room is empty, except for the new bed which we had them set up, we are going to paint.

They arrived mid morning and were gone by the time I left for work. Al hung around to do some things and left later in the day. We will paint as soon as they get the color picked and buy the paint.

It was another hot day with temperatures soaring into the upper 80’s. Thankfully temperatures are supposed to go down starting tomorrow to some cooler temperatures for this time of year for the mountains.

71 degrees and sunny this morning. I drove over to Boone to the Subaru place to get the oil changed and tires rotated. I still have free service for the car under the maintenance plan that was included with the purchase.

It a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and warm with temperatures in the mid 80’s and 9 mph winds. Some of the maples are turning red at the top but the dry weather and warm temperatures may ruin the fall color.

66 degrees with heavy fog this morning. I volunteered at the bookstore this morning. Temperatures are warm and muggy in the low 80’s and partly cloudy. Storm chances have gone down but with this muggy air they could fire up again like they did yesterday afternoon.

Monday September 30, 2019

I am reading High Tide by Ann Summerville.

66 degrees and partly cloudy this morning when I left for the gym. Then it was back home and back to work my shift. Temperatures were in the upper 70’s with high humidity when I got back to the gym.

About 3:15 we had a horrible thunderstorm with hail come through. A lightening strike hit the pool end of the building. Emergency lights came on in some parts of the building and the router went down. It was still down when I left for shift change. The temperature had dropped back down into the upper 60’s after the storm. The sun is out now but there may be more headed our way this evening.

I am sure Colin took cover under my desk or he ran downstairs to the guest bedroom. We had a little over 2 inches of rain here.

Sunday September 29, 2019

70 degrees and sunny this morning.

Another work day on the home front. I vacuumed, dusted, and cleaned the upstairs bathrooms and vacuumed and cleaned the downstairs bathroom. I changed all the house filters and cleaned the front grates.

We then headed outside to sweep cobwebs and spiders from the all the porch corners, swept off the porch, and weeded the beds along the driveway. Then it was time for a shower, lunch, and wash a load of towels.

We had a brief downpour shower yesterday afternoon but it did not amount to much in rain totals. It’s to be warm today, mid 80’s, and perhaps a chance of a shower.
