69 degrees and partly cloudy this morning. It looked like we had a brief shower sometime during the early morning hours. Forecast is to get showers and storms this afternoon.

Home front chores today. I decided to defrost the upright freezer in the garage. It was not bad but the top shelf and ceiling were heavily frosted over so might as well get it done while it was warm enough in the garage to defrost quickly. While that was defrosting I put away the cloth pots I had emptied and tidied up around the gardening table a bit.

I put in a load of clothes to wash and mixed up a batch of bread dough to bake for dinner tonight to go with spaghetti. Leftovers of both will go in the freezer.

52 degrees when I left for Winston this morning. After my haircut I stopped at Costco to stock up on water and the pet store to get food for Colin. I met the girls for lunch uptown at noon then headed back up the mountain.

Temperatures in the upper 70’s with a nice breeze. No rain in the immediate forecast and things are getting very dry.

64 degrees, sunny, and breezy this morning when I took Colin out. I volunteered at the bookstore this morning. The day started off chilly but it’s warmed up into the low 80’s and the breeze has died down.

I saw my first woolly worm or woolly bear yesterday. In case you are unfamiliar with this caterpillar folklorist claim they predict the upcoming winter. I always take note of the coloring and then see how the winter turns out. Last year the one I saw was pretty accurate. The one I saw yesterday is predicting a cold start to the winter, a mild middle, and cold end. Guess we will find out.

64 degrees and sunny with a breeze when I left for the gym. From there I headed down hwy 18 to West Jefferson for a Wal-Mart and Lowe’s shopping trip. At Lowe’s I picked up a few more bags of Black Cow and garden soil along with a couple of bags of bird seed. The Wal-Mart list was mostly  household items and canned pumpkin for Colin.

I hauled the stuff to the garden with the wheel barrow then ate lunch before going back out to dump and spread with the dirt shovel. Temperatures are in the upper 70’s with a 5 to 10 mph breeze and lots of sunshine. A nice first day of the official fall season.

58 degrees and sunny this morning. While Frances and Al made preparations to head back down the mountain I went outside to get some gardening chores taken care of. I cut back the brown eyed Susan’s and both the Rose of Sharon bushes. I cut back the dead lily stems along the driveway and weeded those beds.

By the time I finished they were ready to leave. After they left I vacuumed and cleaned the bathrooms. After lunch I washed the car.

Not much chance of rain this week. Warm and sunny today with temperatures again in the upper 70’s with a breeze.

54 degrees, sunny, and calm this morning. We went into town around 10 for the Heritage Festival. While I helped Joyce at the Friends of the Parkway booth Frances and Al walked around looking at the vendor booths and going in the stores.

I met them for lunch Muddy Creek at 12:30. I walked around looking at the booths on the way back to the Friends booth then stayed another couple of hours to help Joyce while they finished looking around. We stopped for funnel cakes and fried apple pies before heading back home around 3:30.

We had beautiful weather for the event. It turned warmed this afternoon getting into the upper 70’s making it very hot in the sun.

52 degrees and cloudy when I left fr the gym. I stopped by the store on the way home. I worked my midday shift. It was cloudy all day but it never did rain.

My friend Bonnie’s mother died Tuesday. I reheated leftovers for dinner, changed clothes, and headed down the mountain to go to the funeral home for the visitation. Frances and Al arrived the same time I did.
