74 degrees and sunny when I left for the gym. Warm and humid and again today. We had a brief thunderstorm with a few drops of rain this afternoon while I was working but it doesn’t look like we had anything here.

76 degrees, sunny, and warm.

House cleaning chores this morning. I give the shower stall a quick clean every week or so. Periodically, like today, I take everything out and give the walls, ceiling, and floor a good scrub down.

I installed a new toilet seat in the hall bath. I did the one in my bathroom a few weeks ago. I’m doing a few things at my desk while I wait on the towels to finish washing.

Another warm day with temperatures hitting the mid 80’s

I am reading Death Takes Passage by Sue Henry.

74 degrees, sunny, and warm when Colin and I headed outside to work in the yard.

I weeded the flower beds and removed grass from the garden that appeared after last weeks weeding then spread five bags of Black Cow manure with the pitch fork.

The porch area and around the light fixtures needed a good sweeping of cob webs; flowers needed dead headed, etc. It quickly warmed up into the low 80’s with not much of a breeze but a very nice morning to be outside.

After lunch; laundry and assorted chores this afternoon.

74 degrees and sunny when I left for the gym this morning. From there I drove over to West Jefferson to pick up some things at Lowe’s and to order a new oven. Since we moved in here we’ve  had to replace all of the Frigidaire appliances. The microwave, which was an over the oven unit, went out the month we moved in. We did not replace it but instead put one we brought up with us on the counter. We parked an old convection oven in the space just to fill the spot.

This summer I removed the rails and front panel from the cabinet that framed the microwave and had a local guy make two matching cabinet doors so I could use the space as a shelf.

We replaced the dishwasher less than a year after we moved in.

The oven door does not seal completely and cooks unevenly so I decided to get a new one since I do a lot of cooking and baking. The installers will be out next week to make sure the oven fits the opening in the cabinet, etc.

The midday person at the gym today needed to leave a couple of hours early. I went in to relieve her late this afternoon.

It’s another warm day with temperatures in the mid 80’s and lots of sunshine.

62 degrees and dark when I left for Winston this morning at 5:30. I drove down to be with Frances while Al had an outpatient procedure for a follow up on some heart issues they found a month or so ago when he went in the hospital for a stomach blockage.

Thankfully, all went well and he was discharged to go home around 10 and I headed back up the mountain. JoAnn’s daughter had come over mid morning to let Colin out just in case I was going to be down in Winston until later in the day,

Sunday August 11, 2019

62 degrees, sunny, and calm this morning. We had two quick rain storms yesterday afternoon for a total of half an inch. Today is cool with a high in the upper 70’s.

I did the house cleaning and changed the sheets. I worked a bit more on the downstairs book cases bringing up books to go to Cares or the bookstore. There were a couple of series I moved to the upstairs shelves that I intend to reread at some point. Some of the books from the upstairs shelves went down to make room. It’s a work in progress.

After lunched I mixed up a batch of homemade granola bars and put in a load of towels.

Saturday August 10, 2019

A beautiful morning with temperatures in the mid 70’s, lots of sunshine, and a slight breeze.

Although the temperatures was mild it was hot and humid working in the garden. I dug up the last of the potatoes then hoed a bucketful of the course grass that tries to take over. I then spread ten bags of garden soil working it in with the dirt rake to hopefully add some nutrients to the soil for next year.

I hoed the grass from the beds along the driveway and porch. I harvested enough peas from the two vines on the deck for a side for dinner tonight then dumped that dirt in the garden. I still have two pots with young pea plants that are just now coming up. Roughly two and half hours later I had everything cleaned up and put away and headed for the shower.

I washed and cut up about half the potatoes to go in the crock pot along with a package of chicken thighs for dinner tonight. Laundry and other assorted chores this afternoon.
