Temperatures were in the upper 40’s with partly cloudy skies when I left for Winston.

I did my fall/winter Costco trip. My sister had warned me they had moved things around, again. I took my time roaming all the aisles and areas of the store which I normally do not do. I usually go in and pick up what I need and leave.

I found everything I was looking for except on kind of cereal which they have not had for almost a year so I guess they are not stocking that one anymore. Otherwise, pretty much stuck to my list except I ran into a friend from Sparta who recommended one of their frozen entrees by a vendor I like so I picked up two pack of that.

From there I drove halfway back home to Elkin. I treated myself to lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in downtown then walked down to the other end of the town for my 3 pm appointment with the oral surgeon. My last visit to check on the post for the implant. All looks well so now it’s an appointment with the dentist up here to get the crown. Seven months gone and I am almost finished with this process.

It was nice in Winston with temps in the upper 60’s. I arrived back here around 4. Unloaded the car and put the frozen stuff in the garage freezer. Now, to put the rest of the stuff away.

Mostly cloudy today and chilly. Highs in the upper 40’s with some 10 to 15 mph wind gusts.

After the gym I stopped by the library to return and pick up some books then did the usual grocery store run.

After I put the groceries away I emptied the last two hanging pots and pulled up the flowers at the mailbox. This afternoon changed the sheets. Time to switch over to the flannels.

Mostly cloudy today with highs in the upper 60’s and breezy. Winds will pick up tonight with gusts in the 45 mph range as the cold front comes in.

We had a busy day at the store with customers and donations. I had to leave around 2:30 to go to an event but we had broken the $100 ceiling by that time.

My friend’s son and significant other are expecting a baby so I attended the shower this afternoon.

Sunny today and nice with highs in the low 70’s and a light breeze.

A nice day at the bookstore. We almost broke the $100.00 ceiling. Several donations came in to work on.

After work I met a friend downstairs at The Cellar to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine and an appetizer. It’s a nice place to hang out.

Sunny and warmer today with highs in the low 70’s and not as breezy.

I worked at the store today to help out for one of the volunteers who is sick. We had a moderate day in sales but another busy day with donations that took up most of the day to get processed.

Mostly cloudy and cool today with highs in the upper 50’s and breezy.

A moderate day in sales at the store but a busy day with donations. One right after another which means I spent the day sorting, pricing, and shelving.

Yesterday I had the heating/AC checked for the winter. All was well except for the huge mouse next they found in the unit. I’ve had a few mice crawl in there and die but never a nest. They had chewed the wires to one of the sensors but they were able to tape them up for now.

I have some spray that deters them because they do not like the smell but had stopped using it because I had not had a mouse problem for awhile. Back to spraying.

Another sunny cool day with winds gusting in the 15 to 25 mph range. Yesterday we were in the mid 50’s. Today we may make the low 60’s with 40’s over night.

Gym and grocery store this morning. Picked up the usual weekly items plus a few extras for the pantry. Weather folks are saying we may be in for a rough winter but they said that last year and we didn’t. But, I will be prepared either way.

Filled the bird feeders and watered the mum. I have some annuals that are still blooming. I will leave those in the ground for now.

Saturday October 7, 2023

Sunny but breezy and chilly today. 15 to 25 mph winds and temperatures in the mid 50’s, feels like 45. We may dip down below freezing tonight.

Half price paperback sale at the store. We were busy most of the day. Almost broke the $200.00 ceiling. The last Music On Main was tonight but they moved everything indoors due to the chilly temperatures and winds. So, instead of staying open until 7:30 we closed at the 5 pm.

We had a brief rain shower while we were in The Cellar.

Wednesday October 4, 2023

Another warm, sunny day in the mountains with highs in the mid 70’s and breezy. Leaves are starting to turn and some are already falling.

Although it was a slow day in sales Joyce and I worked like Trojans all day. She worked on changing the window, I reorganized one of our book tables and processed a couple of donations. Our high school teen volunteer helped me moved one genre of books from one books case to another so I could reorganize a section of one of our other tall bookcases. Then I switched out or half price books for this month.

Although I new the nationwide alert was going to happen at 2:20 I was busy at that tine and jumped a foot out of my chair when it went off.
