Frances fixed eggplant parm for dinner last night with spaghetti. I have left over meals for the next couple of days of that.
After they left this morning I did the house cleaning chores and few things here at my desk. Laundry this afternoon.
Sunny, warm, and breezy this morning. Highs today made it into the low 70’s. Rain is supposed to move in this afternoon. We had a brief shower last evening. Less than a half an inch of rain but enough to wet the ground to make flower planting easier.
By noon we had most of the flowers in pots and in the ground but we ran out of potting soil. Al and I went into town to buy some more. After a lunch break we went out to finish planting and clean up the garage from where we potted all the plants.

Frances and Al arrived last evening.
This morning we drove over to West Jefferson. We first stopped Third Day Market where I bought my plants. Then we drove further into town to go to Lowe’s Home and Garden then into West Jefferson downtown to have lunch at Boonedocks and stop at the Cheese Factory outlet store.
Back in Sparta we made a couple of other quick stops then home to unload the truck and sit on the porch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.

I spent about three hours outside this morning. Hosed off the porch furniture and put out the cushions. Repainted the bird feeder on the pole by the porch. Pulled out all the hanging and sitting pots from the shelves in the garage and set up the tables for the planting party this weekend.
The bleeding heart had a beautiful blooms but they are now gone. I cut it back early so may get a second smaller bloom this summer. Still too dry to pull weeds but did a little tidying up in the beds along the porch.
George stopped by to pick up his check. Deck looks great. I wanted to get all the outdoor stuff done before James gets here to mow. This afternoon kitchen chores, etc.

A slow day in sales at the bookstore but several big donations that came in to be processed. Always a lot of work to get those sorted out, priced, and shelved.
George was here this morning when I left. He was staining the deck a light grey to match the floor. He also fixed the french door that goes out to the deck that was sticking and replaced some more roof tiles from the last wind storm.
Mostly sunny today with 15 to 20 mph winds and temperatures in the upper 60’s. We had a brief rain shower this morning. May get an afternoon thunderstorm but chances are slim.
I went to the gym to do a light workout then back home. The big project for the day was to dig up half of the aster plant in the bed in front of the porch. It had gotten way too big. I replanted two smaller pieces on both sides of the coral bell to fill in some blank spaces down from the one I reduced in size.
I put another small piece up toward the road along the driveway on the left side then put the biggest piece down a little further. That will give me some nice color along the driveway this fall.
Other than digging up some weeds around the transplant areas that was it for the day.

Hopefully between rain showers I can grill the chicken for future meals and the kielbasa for tonight’s dinner with some rice.
Of course today is the usual house cleaning and laundry chores.
