Cool and cloudy this morning with temperatures in the mid 60’s but no more rain. The sun has come out this afternoon raising the temps to the low 70’s.
Gym this morning. I had a Friends of the Library meeting this afternoon.
Plumber arrived yesterday afternoon around 3:30. Toilet connection was leaking around the valve to turn it off and, of course, the fitting behind the wall. So now I have a small hole in the wall behind the toilet that will need to be repaired along with the wall downstairs.
About an inch of rain over night and this morning. We finally have a cool drizzly day with temperatures in the mid 60’s.
I can’t catch a break. I cleaned the upstairs bathrooms and shower then went downstairs to do a little clean up from where he had to drill out the wall board.
I came back upstairs to do the vacuuming. When I went int the foyer bathroom I had water all over the floor under the toilet. I called the same firm that came out the other night. As he said and I suspected it’s the toilet leaking. I turned off the water the the toilet.
They will be here this afternoon.
Sunny this morning with temperatures in the upper 70’s.
I was at the bookstore most of the day. We had a hard rain around 1;30. It was still drizzling when I left. Late yesterday I had another one of those brief driving rain storms but on brought about 8 tenths of rain. Same thing today. We are under flash flood watch but so far here I’ve only had lest than half an inch again. I guess it all adds up.
Laundry is washing while I make rice for stir fry for dinner.
Last night when I went to clean up the kitchen after dinner around 5:45 my water pressure was almost nothing. When I turned the faucet to hot I had no water. I tried the bathroom sink and had off and on water.
I went downstairs to investigate and found roughly an inch of water running from the bottom of the stairs in the finished area over to the first bookcase and about a third of the floor in the unfinished area.
I texted my plumber who called a 24 hour service he uses to come out. I turned off the breaker to the water pump and the water heater. The guy finally showed up from another job around 8:30. By then most of the water had gone down the drain in the floor of the unfinished area. The finished area was almost dry.
When he turned the water valve back on water started pouring out from the baseboard in the finished area. The only way to find the leak was to cut holes in the wall until he found which pipe fittings had blown based on where the water was coming out under the baseboard.
He finished replacing fittings and left around 9:30. I finished cleaning up the kitchen and started running a load of sopping wet towels. Once they were in the dryer around 10:30 I went to bed to read and settled down.
I will wait to fix the wall until my plumber comes to look to see if we need to replace any more fittings. Otherwise, there was no water damage. The insulation is still hanging out of the wall to dry.
I spent today at the bookstore. Just could not deal with the cleanup of wall board and dust.
We had a storm come up late yesterday afternoon. Sheets of rain brought almost an inch before that storm moved on through. Behind it came more gentle rain bringing the total up to almost an inch an a half. It will take more than that to return the grass to green but at least the plants were watered.
Today is warm again with temperatures in the mid 80’s and humidity around 65% with a chance of storms again.
I spent today at the bookstore. Slow traffic day but by the time I left we had made close to the $60 range.
I took a little vacation down to Winston to stay with Frances and Al from Sunday to Tuesday. Just hung out around the house and enjoyed relaxing.
We had take out Chinese for dinner Sunday night. For the Fourth they fixed a nice meal with burgers, dogs, baked beans, potato and macaroni salad, all the fixings, and several kinds of dessert. Along with us they invited a couple of neighbors to join us.
I brought up a lot of wonderful leftovers to get me through the next few days.
It was hot and humid down there and dry. I sat outside for awhile a watched a few fireworks then went in the house to read.
This morning I stopped at Costco to stock up on a lot of both food and non-food items I had run low on being out of commission for three months. They had everything I was looking for.
Now I am unloading the car then have to put all the stuff away. Not as warm up here with temperatures in the low 80’s but we need rain too.
