Windy and cold today. We had less than an inch of snow this morning followed by snow showers this afternoon. Temperatures are in the upper 30’s with the wind chill down in the 20’s. Winds are gusting in the 20 to 30 mph range and higher at times.

When we got home yesterday I had a shutter hanging by a thread on the side of the house at my bedroom window. Al went out and pulled it off the house. My repair guy will come by and see what he needs to get it hung back up.

Finally, I had a good night sleep. I have to get up at 6 to do my morning antibiotic infusion but then can go back to sleep.

Frances and Al are going over to the grocery store in Independence to look for a few things.

I am so glad to be home.

Thanks to Nick for doing a post. I only had an hour to get ready and leave for Winston to check into the hospital. Thank you to everyone who was concerned and sent well wishes once Nick posted.

Another infection, in the right knee this time. I went from the hospital to a skilled rehab facility. I will be on the walker until I get another replacement.

Frances and Al brought me home this morning. With them here this weekend I will get things settled and a routine so I can function by myself after they leave.

Hello everyone, DON’T PANIC, Nick here with an update…

Barbara is fine.

Some people were getting worried about her not posting for a few days, but I’ve spoken with Frances, and Barbara is doing OK.

She had a flare up of infection in her knee, not the same one as last time, but the right one, and was hospitalized.

They’ve removed the infected implant, and she’s currently in  a  rehab facility getting treatment  for the infection and getting her strength up so that she can return home.

She’s stronger and feels better than the last time she went through this, but she’ll be getting daily PT and care for a couple of weeks before she goes home.  After that, once the infection is completely cleared up, she’ll go back to have a new knee replacement, which will have its own convalescence and recovery period.

She’s been through this before, knows what to expect, and is looking forward to getting home, but she probably won’t be posting for a couple of weeks.

Keep checking for periodic updates, either from me or from Frances in a comment, and of course, keep her in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Thanks,

nick flandrey

PS, Frances says she’s doing fine with a stack of library books and doesn’t need anything at the moment.  We’ll let you know if there is anything she needs or wants to help pass the time.

Monday March 7, 2022

I am reading Murder on Pleasant Avenue by Victoria Thompson.

Weather has been warm the last couple of day. We may get some severe weather this afternoon as a cold front comes through bringing an end to the springlike conditions. Winds are gusting this afternoon with temperatures in the low 60’s but going back down into the low 30’s tonight.

I am still limping around on the cane/walker. Waiting on a call from the ortho office. I am missing my Friends for the Library meeting this afternoon. Between not walking too good and it being a strain keeping the leg down I decided not to go.

This not being my first rodeo with knee issues I am back to functioning in survival mode. Fortunately, this house is set up so that I can get around to take care of most small things. Big things can just wait.

Sunny, warm, and breezy today.

I did manage to get the laundry done. I wheeled the basket out the laundry room and back on the walker. Otherwise, not much else I can do but keep the leg up and rest it.

Friday March 4, 2022

Warm weather continues with lots of sunshine.

I had to go down to Winston yesterday to see my orthopedist. The right knee starting acting up Monday afternoon. By yesterday it was very swollen and ugly. I am waiting on test results to see what the next steps are. I am not very ambulatory but can get around. I’ve been using my cane. Joyce stopped by this afternoon after picking up my library books for me. While she was here she retrieved the walker from the attic. I can get around a lot better with it.

Yesterday was a very long and aggravating day so today I am resting.

I was at the bookstore this morning through mid afternoon. We had few sales but they the ones we did have were all big numbers making it a successful day.

Warm and sunny today with light winds. Temperatures in the low 50’s this afternoon.

This morning I drove over to Jefferson for my income tax preparation appointment. I was back home around 12:30. Other than a few odds and ends to take care of not much going on.
