Frances and Al arrived around 5 pm yesterday. We fixed salad to go with Digiorno pizza for dinner. This morning we moved the shelving and the This End Up table out to the unfinished area. We brought my Nana’s old bed down from the attic. At one time, that bed was set up in the guest room in Winston. We moved the tall dresser from Frances and Al’s room to the guest room and Bob’s bed side table, which actually goes with that bed, in there. Not much to do but get a double sized box spring and mattress, and add some decorating finishing touches.

While they hang out here I am doing an afternoon shift at the bookstore.

I volunteered again this year to be a judge for the middle school Battle of the Books competition held at the public library for the three local schools competing against each other. That was this morning from 10 to noon. From there I went to the Wellness Center.

In the moving on part of my life I needed something to fill empty hours that used to be filled with helping Bob with the business. I have taken a part time job at the Wellness Center working a couple of days a week at the front check-in desk. I started my training this afternoon. I will work a varied schedule from week to week when they need coverage rather than a set time and day. And, they will work around my schedule to be off weekends when Frances and Al are up here or weekdays when I need to go to Winston. The worst days for me are end of the week afternoons and the weekend which are the days they need coverage after loosing two part timers earlier this month.

Gym this morning followed by stops at drugstore, hardware store, bank, library, and grocery store. As I have said before, one of the many advantages of small town life; all those stops took about an hour with everything located in a five mile radius of one another.

It’s cloudy and cool today. I have some in house chores to work on this afternoon.

I am reading Cruel Winter by Sheila Connolly.

Today is cloudy and chilly with a chance of rain showers this afternoon. I am working on the downstairs room and some other projects.

The power went off around 8 am this morning just as I was getting ready to take Colin out for first time. About five minutes later I heard sirens so I figured someone hit a power pole somewhere. I fed Colin, took him out for his second time, and read the paper by natural light. I called the power-on number; got the recording it would be 10 am.

I did not want to go to the gym in case it was longer than 10 because I had a dentist appointment at 11:30 and would not be able to take a shower. Thankfully it came back on at 9 am. I ate a quick bowl of cereal then headed to the gym for a quick workout, back home, showered, and headed for the dentist.

It was my six month cleaning and exam. I have another cracked filling that will need a  crown. These fillings have been in there for a long time so I am not surprised. Hopefully no surprises underneath the filling when she replaces it next week.

Sunday march 25, 2018

Cloudy and white when I took Colin out around 8 am. We had about 6 to 7 inches of wet snow with sleet and freezing rain on top. The driveway and sidewalk were covered in a couple of inches of the latter.

I cleaned house then took Colin out while I tried shoveling to help the sun melt off the sleet mess but it was like shoveling wet sand. The sun was out making things really slushy underneath.

About that time James pulled in the driveway. We chatted a few minutes then he went back to his house and drove his old riding mower with a front blade and snow tires and cleared it in 20 minutes. While he did the drive I shoveled off the sidewalk and refilled the bird feeders. A high of 39 today will help with the melting but a low of 29 tonight will refreeze everything that thaws.

Saturday March 24, 2018

It was sleeting when I took Colin out around 8:15. A half hour later the sleet turned into big white snow flakes. As I said yesterday, it is supposed to snow all day today, tonight, and tomorrow.

I am lugging boxes of stuff from the downstairs room up here to sort between Cares, keep, and trash. The room is empty except for the shelving units and This End Up kitchen table and benches. Al will help move those out to the unfinished area when they come back up.

Bob had just put up another set of bracket shelving on one wall for all the food storage. I will leave it up along with the shelving we put in when we moved in for his books. I can use the extra shelving to better organized the paperback books and some knick/knacks to decorate the room.

Friday March 23, 2018

Another sunny but cold and windy day. I went to the gym, library, and grocery store this morning. The weather folks are calling for a somewhat major snowstorm here starting tomorrow morning. Opinions vary from 4 to 6 inches and upwards to 9 depending on who is doing the forecasting and where you live.

At any rate, folks around here were taking it serious. The store was busier than usual, the milk shelf was almost empty, and there were longs lines at the checkouts.

Thursday March 22, 2018

Sunny today but cold and windy. A good day to start the downstairs food room project. Frances suggested I turn that room into a guest room, which is a very goo idea. Today I moved all the food from the free standing shelf out to the unfinished area shelves. I also cleaned off what prepping gear I kept that was on the other free standing shelf out there.

Still some work to do another day. While I was working Colin lay at the top of the stairs with his head on one paw, watching me go back and forth from the food room to the unfinished area. He makes a good supervisor.

Wednesday March 21, 2018

I am reading Winter Study by Nevada Barr.

Congrats to Rick and Ben. The new Home Scientist web site is up and running. Both have been hard at work getting things organized for Ben to resume the business in full swing.

We had a light covering of wet snow on the ground and trees this morning but the roads were just wet. 20 mph winds today with snow falling off and on all day then 50 mph gusts tonight.

I went to the gym, dropped a load of stuff at Cares and back home. I mixed up a batch of oatmeal/chocolate chips cookies to bake this afternoon.
