Happy Birthday to Frances. Her and Al are up here for the weekend to help with the kit stuff and to celebrate her birthday.

By 5pm yesterday afternoon there was still a considerable amount of kit stuff to be packed and put in the truck from the garage. It took most of the day to do the lab downstairs. Ben and Paul went to the hotel then met us at The Pines for dinner.

They came back this morning to finish getting everything packed up into the car and U Haul. Paul took off around noon and Ben around 12:45. Another tough time seeing that side of the garage empty and all the kit supplies gone.

There was nice maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch of wet snow covering everything this morning. Most of it melted off a couple of hours later. We have blue skies, temperatures in the low 40’s and wind.

Today is a very hard day for me emotionally. Ben and his son Paul arrived around 11am to pack up the science kit stuff. They drove down yesterday from PA. This morning they picked up the U Haul from our local supplier and will head back tomorrow.. Frances and Al came up yesterday.

I am so very happy I found someone wanting to continue the business for Bob. I will be helping with the transition as much as I can answering questions, etc.

Mostly cloudy today with snow showers flying around off and on but not much in the way precipitation with winds at 15 to 25 mph. It is to very cold tonight with temperatures down to the teens.

I am working on getting the kit stuff organized, paper work filled out, etc. for the transfer of the business.

There was very wet snow falling this morning when Colin and I went out around 8am to get the paper. It was just enough to cover the ground and make the road slushy. The sun was shinning by the time I left here for the gym but it was blowing snow and sleet at the gym. Now the sun is out and we have our wonderful 20 to 30 mph wind gust back today and tonight with a chance of more snow flurries.

I have a long list of project to work on today including a load of laundry and inventory and paperwork on the sale of the business.

I had a 10:15 appointment this morning with the social security office in North Wilkesboro for estate stuff. They are the nearest office to Sparta. Not knowing where I was going or how long it would take me to get there I left here about 8:30. It only took about an hour which means I was down there by 9:30. I decided to go ahead and check in just in case they would take me early.

Glad I did. They called me back about 10:45. I had a very nice young man who explained all my options, etc. Thirty minutes or so later I was all finished and back on the road.

Thankfully we only had rain showers since there was a chance of some sleet/freezing stuff might fall. The day is supposed to chilly, cloudy, and rain showers.

Monday March 5, 2018

Gym this morning. Errands from there. Friends of the Library meeting at 1pm. In between and this afternoon I have been putting out one fire after another. Between health care, computer, estate, and business stuff it has been a Monday.

I am in the process of getting The Home Scientist business sold. Between my attorney and accountant and some very wonderful behind the scenes help from two of Bob’s readers, I would not have been able to get this together. Talk about taking a village! I will still be involved with helping the buyer with the transition but once I get the main part of this off my plate I hope things will be somewhat less hectic.

Sunday March 4, 2018

The winds have finally subsided the their normal 10 to 15 mph today with a few gusts. It’s sunny and warm, upper 40’s making it a nice day from what we’ve had.

I did the house cleaning chores this morning then spent at least an hour on paperwork and estate stuff, paying bills, etc.

While I had Colin out playing this afternoon I rehung the bird feeder.

Saturday March 3, 2018

I had a nice evening out last night with one of the ladies who volunteers at the bookstore and a friend of hers. We drove down to Elkin for dinner at Southern On Main restaurant then walked a block up to the Reeves Theater for a a music performance by the Jeff Little Trio.

The Reeves is another one of those old 60’s style movie theaters that closed in the mid 90’s and sat empty for years until someone bought and remodeled it into a lovely music and special events venue.

Still windy today, mid 30’s, and sunny. Gusts still in the 20 to 30 mph range but will hopefully start calming down more this afternoon.

Wicked, is what it is outside. Sunny and cold with temperatures in the mid 30’s’ the winds are howling at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 and maybe higher. The winds started last night. I forgot to bring in the small rolling trash cart by the garage door. I heard go crashing down the driveway, even with the rocks on top, about 9:30 pm and had to go out and retrieve it.

During the night the power must have gone off, a rare occurrence for us, because Colin woke me up when everything started blinking back to life. I reset the alarm clock to stop the blinking  and went back to bed.

This morning there was a scattering of snow on the deck, roof, and natural areas. The mesh cylinder bird feeder was empty where it had blown around. Even though I had added a wire to ground anchor on one side, the other side we anchored to the pole itself, the wire to ground had pulled out. I put it back in the ground once but this afternoon I finally took it down and brought it in to keep it from getting damaged.

This howling wind situation is to continue through tonight into tomorrow. I am no lightweight and the wind darn near blew me off my feet when I went out to get mail.

Thursday March 1, 2018

Trip down to Winston today. It rained all the way down, the entire time I was in Winston and all the way home. I had time to run a couple of errands before my 10:30 hair cut appointment. Then, I hit Costco to pick up just a few things I needed to hold me over until I do a big stock up later. From there I met my Firm friends for lunch up town then it was back up the mountain.

Behind this warm, wet front is a cold front bringing 30 to 40 mph winds the next couple of days with some gusts over 70 mph and cold temperatures again. With all the rain we’ve had there could be a lot of trees to come down.
