Frances and Al are back in Winston. We finally have a nice warm day with sunshine and just a slight breeze. I need to do several loads of laundry and work on some stuff at my desk.

I am reading The Lavender Lane Lothario by David Handler.

It’s a cold, dreary, rainy day. Fortunately, temperatures are hovering just above freezing. I spent the morning taking care of some small projects in the house. This afternoon we are watching on episodes of Blue Bloods on NetFlix. Frances and Al are cooking dinner.

I had a very nice dinner and visit last night with Nancy and Betsy. Frances and I headed back up the mountain about 10 am this morning. Again, thankfully, its warm since more rain moved in here this afternoon. Al helped me put up a new pole for the bird feeder and do a couple of other things before the rain came in. The raccoon have been getting in the bird feeder again. I finally took down the short pole it was on earlier this week and went to the lawn and garden store to get a taller one.

Partly cloudy today and very warm. The wind has picked up as well bringing, yes, more rain tonight and tomorrow.

Gym and grocery store this morning after making another stop at the clerk of court office first thing to finish up what I needed to do to file the estate documents. I’ve spent the afternoon handling more estate stuff with my attorney and the bank.

After a another rainy morning the sun has come out. Temperatures are in the mid 50’s.

I am reading Bad to Wurst by Maddy Hunter.

Another cloudy, drippy, day. Air temperatures dropped low enough to freeze liquid on the bird feeders and railing but the ground was too warm to create any problems. Not sure what I will work on this afternoon.

Monday February 12, 2018

Today is Colin’s 7th  birthday.

Off to the gym this morning. I stopped by the clerk of courts office to see what needed to be done there. More paperwork to file and things to do. Other than doing a load of laundry I’ve spent the day doing estate and kit stuff. The sun has finally made an appearance after four days. Fortunately, the rain is out of here since it’s to go back down into the high 20’s tonight.

I had a good trip down to Winston yesterday. I ran several errands before getting to Frances and Al’s. At 5pm Frances and I left in separate cars to meet Bonnie for dinner at Mid Town Cafe. From there Frances went home and I followed Bonnie to Reynold’s Auditorium for the Winston-Salem symphony Plugged-In- Pops program featuring the Steep Canyon Ranger; an excellent group of musicians from North Carolina. They put on a fabulous show.

I headed back up the mountain about 9:15 this morning. Al left about 11:30. After 2 1/2 months of stress and grief dealing with Bob’s illness and death it was good for me to escape reality for a couple of hours and enjoy myself.

Thankfully it has been warm this weekend. We’ve had 2 inches of rain in Sparta with another inch to fall today. I am sure Winston has had at least an inch plus.

Gym and assorted other errands this morning. I’ve vacuumed, dusted, and cleaned the bathrooms. It’s a nice day with temperatures in the upper 40’s, sunny, and not much wind. Rain is coming in tonight and staying for the weekend.

Al is coming up in the morning so I can go down to Winston tomorrow afternoon. My friend has symphony tickets. She and I will attend then I will stay over with Frances and come back home on Sunday.

After a chilly start to the day it has warmed up to the low 40’s but, of course, we have the wind. David from the Echo Ridge Astronomical Society came this morning. They are just over the NC/VA line not far from us in Independence, VA. I met his wife through our Friends of the Library. Their club has done a couple of programs for the library.

Astronomy was another thing Bob and I did for about ten years. He wrote several books on the topic. We spent a lot of time observing but Bob sort of lost interest especially after that initial bout of vertigo making it hard to observe. We then became so busy with the kit business we just did not have time.

I too have lost interest and hate for the equipment to just sit there in the garage gathering dust. Their club has several members who come to their meeting but cannot afford equipment.

Once he left I pulled everything out of the garage freezer to defrost and to take inventory of what I have and what I need for next Costco run. While the freezer was defrosting I worked on the garage organizing stuff and utilizing the space vacated by the astronomy stuff.
